Muzzled dogs arent bad dogs..

Say it louder for those in the back.

There's such a common misconception when it comes to muzzled dogs, and people need to realise that just because a dog is muzzled doesnt meant their aggressive.

Again as we've said in previous blog posts, the term aggression meants the intent to harm. There are very few dogs out there who are truly out there to cause harm to other dogs, generally reactive dogs just want to create space and get their trigger to move away.

But what about the scavenger dogs? Some dogs are so bad at eating things on walks that they make themselves ill. I've had to recommend to clients that they muzzle their dog because their scavenging is actually dangerous, the dog doesnt truly enjoy their walks because all they were trying to do was find something to eat.

Not every muzzle is suitable for every dog, and its really important that when choosing a muzzle you choose one which is fit for purpose. Fabric muzzles should only ever be used for extremely short periods of times like vet visits. They are made to hold the dogs jaw shut to prevent biting. This does mean they are unable to pant while wearing these muzzles so are not suitable for any types of exercise.

Baskerville muzzles are your standard muzzle which comes in a range of sizes, this material is flexible and durable. These have some room which allows your dogs to pant, however there are also other brands like The Muzzle Movement which allows your dog to have full pant space.

Lets just remember to not be prejudice and assume that a muzzled dog is an aggressive one, which it is still wise to create space, they are not bad dogs. A muzzled dog is a responsible owner.
